iFood Has Just Launched Its New Electric Motorcycle Focused on Platform Deliverers. The Vehicle Has a Range of 180 km and Can Use Up to Two Batteries, Delivering 83 km/h.
iFood launched an electric motorcycle for platform deliverers this Tuesday (31). The vehicle was produced in partnership with the Brazilian manufacturer Voltz and costs around R$ 10 thousand in its pre-sale, promising to be a more economical alternative for workers, in addition to being sustainable for the environment, since it emits no type of polluting gas.
iFood’s Electric Motorcycle Generates Savings and Sustainability
The electric vehicle was announced by the company at the beginning of the year and is capable of reducing costs by 70% in maintenance and 60% with fuel. The first 300 electric motorcycles can still be acquired with a special financing that will guarantee the collaborator a discount of R$ 2 thousand, meaning the motorcycle will cost only R$ 8 thousand.

Peugeot publicly acknowledged the errors of the PureTech engine, which caused serious failures in hundreds of thousands of cars, and introduced the new Turbo 100 as a definitive solution, a 1.2 turbo tested for over 3 million kilometers that replaces the faulty belt with a more durable chain.

Without relying on an outlet, without a cable, and without the gasoline engine driving the wheels: Nissan created the Note e-POWER, a hatchback that always runs on an electric motor while a combustion engine works only as a generator, delivering to Japan a type of “electric without recharging” that Brazil is almost unfamiliar with.
The EVS Work is a new version of the EVS, the main line of electric motorcycles from Voltz, and is already available in versions with two batteries or without a battery, which can be rented for prices ranging from R$ 129 to R$ 319 per month. Using both batteries, the electric motorcycle has a total range of 180 km.
For now, the target audience of iFood is only the deliverers in São Paulo, given that the 19 battery-swap points will be spread across neighborhoods in the capital such as Lapa, Consolação, República, Moema, and Pinheiros. The goal is to have around 100 stations spread across the city in the coming months, where it will be possible to swap the electric motorcycle’s battery in just a few minutes.
Although there is the possibility of battery swapping, it is also possible to recharge the vehicle at regular home outlets, considering that along with the motorcycle there is also a charger. A full charge takes about 5 hours, and the vehicle is also programmed to reach speeds of up to 85 km/h; however, it can achieve higher speeds in other configurations.
iFood’s Electric Motorcycle Can Be Used for Leisure
Although it is an initiative of iFood, the electric motorcycle does not necessarily need to be used only for deliveries; that is, owners will also have the right to use the vehicle for leisure and outings. In addition, the vehicle can be used for deliveries on other apps.
According to iFood’s strategy director, João Barreto, the company is not concerned with the use of the motorcycle at this moment, but rather with the possibility of truly electrifying the city of São Paulo and showing that the model is scalable.
Despite this, the representative recalled that both the vehicle and the batteries are connected to an app capable of tracking the motorcycle in real-time, providing more security. This way, it is possible to know whether deliveries are being made or not, for example. However, it does not mean that the deliverer will be harmed if they purchase it and then stop working for iFood after a while.
iFood’s Electric Motorcycle Will Reach Other Cities Next Year
According to Martins, the electric motorcycles arrive after undergoing various tests with 30 deliverers from São Paulo. The company’s expectation is that 10 thousand electric motorcycles will be operating on the streets of other cities by the end of next year.
The executive also stated that through the app, various information can be accessed such as the motorcycle’s charge, wheel locking in case of theft, location, where the swap points are, how many batteries are available at the point, among others.
According to the company’s strategic account manager, Lucas Vitale, the vehicles are being delivered to buyers within a period of 30 days and come with a warranty of up to 2 years.
