The Million-Dollar Project in MS for Access to the Paraguay River Bridge Represents Progress Towards the Implementation of the Bioceanic Route, Connecting Brazil to the Ports of Northern Chile

Million-dollar project in MS! The regional superintendency of the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) of the state approved last Tuesday (09/29) the hiring of Etelestudos Técnicos Ltda to carry out the study and project for the bypass road in Porto Murtinho, providing access to the International Bridge that will give access to the Bioceanic Route, the bridge that will link Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, and Chile.

The hiring of the company represents another important step towards consolidating and implementing the Bioceanic Route, following the schedule established by the Brazilian and Paraguayan governments.

The company won the bidding process for the amount of R$ 1.544 million. According to Superintendent Euro Nunes Varanis Junior, the contract will be signed in 10 days, and the execution schedule is for 521 days.

Etelestudos Técnicos Ltda will be responsible for the Development of Basic and Executive Engineering Studies and Projects for the Northern Bypass Road in Porto Murtinho/MS, providing access to the Brazil/Paraguay International Bridge and customs facilities for the Integrated Border Control Center on BR-267.

BRIDGE OVER THE PARAGUAY RIVER AND THE BIOCEANIC ROUTE

Through a Binational Agreement between Brazil and Paraguay, the Bioceanic Route will be promoted, linking Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, and Chile through a traffic corridor, consolidating a roadway network of structured transport corridors that will increase the countries’ competitiveness in the international market.

In June 2016, Legislative Decree No. 110, of 2018, approved the text of the Agreement between the Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil and the Government of the Republic of Paraguay for the Construction of an International Road Bridge over the Paraguay River between the Cities of Porto Murtinho and Carmelo Peralta.

On December 21, 2018, then-President of Brazil Michel Temer and the President of Paraguay Mario Abdo Benítez signed the authorization for the construction of two bridges with resources from Itaipu Binacional, one of which is the aforementioned International Bridge over the Paraguay River in Porto Murtinho/MS.

In April 2020, the Brazil-Paraguay Mixed Commission approved the hiring of the Prointec Consortium to conduct a technical, economic, and environmental feasibility study, final engineering project, registration, and oversight regarding the construction of the bridge over the Paraguay River, between the municipalities of Carmelo Peralta and Porto Murtinho, along with complementary work.
