Oil And Gas Sector Sets Record In Investments In The Production Phase, Highlighting The Santos And Campos Basins. ANP Survey Shows A Heated Scenario And Points To Priorities In The Use Of Resources.
The Brazilian oil and gas industry is in full expansion. Data released this Monday (9) by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) reveals that investments in the production phase more than doubled in 2024, reaching R$ 94.2 billion, compared to R$ 37.7 billion recorded in 2022 — a growth of 150%.
This evolution reflects the advancement of development projects in fields that have already completed the exploration phase, signaling the country’s attractiveness for capital in the energy sector.
Oil And Gas Sector: Over R$ 190 Billion Invested in Three Years
Over the last three years, the investment volume in oil and gas in Brazil reached R$ 190 billion, consolidating the country as one of the most relevant destinations for investments in the segment.

Of this amount, R$ 36 billion (18.9%) was directed to the construction of platforms, highlighting the focus on the necessary infrastructure for large-scale extraction.
On the other hand, environmental recovery received only R$ 134 million — a low value considering the magnitude of the investments, raising questions about the balance between production and sustainability.
Santos Basin Leads Investments, Followed by Campos
The Santos Basin stands out as the main recipient of investments in the production phase, with R$ 116 billion, which represents 61.6% of the total applied in the period.
Next is the Campos Basin, which received R$ 62.6 billion, or 33.1% of the resources.
These two regions concentrate the largest pre-salt projects in Brazil, confirming their strategic importance for the oil and gas sector.
Understand The Phases Of Contracts In The Sector
ANP contracts are divided into two main phases: exploration and production. The exploration phase involves studies, seismic surveys, and drilling of wells to identify the presence of oil or gas and assess its commercial viability.
If the discoveries are positive, the company submits a declaration of commerciality and moves to the production phase, after the plan is approved by the ANP.
Only after this approval does the area officially become a producing field, a stage where investments intensify, as demonstrated by the recent exponential growth.
