Andalusia authorized exceptional rules for the 2026-2027 season with the aim of reducing the wild boar population, increasing safety in control actions, and responding to damage caused to crops, livestock, and roads.
Andalusia declared a temporary emergency for hunting in the 2026-2027 season to contain wild boars, whose expansion is concerning due to damage to crops, livestock, and roads, as well as the risk of diseases that threaten pig farming.
Temporary emergency expands control over wild boars
The decision was approved in southern Spain and published in the Official Gazette of the Regional Government of Andalusia, the BOJA. The measure reopens the debate on instruments used to reduce the presence of wild boars and feral pigs in regulated areas.
The change meets a long-awaited demand by hunters in the autonomous community, who advocated for tools to tackle the advance of these animals. The scenario is also considered delicate due to the risk of outbreaks that could affect the swine sector.

Night hunts will have exceptional rules
The authorization applies to areas where hunting is legally permitted and regulated. Exceptionally, night hunts for wild boars and wild animals may use conventional, digital, thermal, or night vision scopes during actions.
The official document justifies the relaxation as a way to increase the effectiveness of interventions and enhance safety in operations. The established priority is to significantly reduce the population density of these animals.
Culling will have no capture limit
The Council allows the culling of specimens of both sexes, with no capture limit. The guidance pays special attention to adult and subadult females, considered important in the population reduction effort.
The temporary emergency will remain valid until the end of the 2026-2027 hunting season. The suspension may occur before this deadline if the circumstances that motivated the adoption of the measure disappear.
The proliferation of wild boars remains at the center of discussions among local authorities, hunters, and productive sectors. Do you believe that exceptional rules help protect crops, livestock, and roads, or do they open space for conflicts in wildlife control? Leave your opinion in the comments.
