15 Oil Companies Acquired 192 Exploratory Blocks of Oil and Gas in the ANP Auction, With Revenue from Interest and Contract Awards for Presence in Basins and Exploratory Frontier.

Petrobras acquired 29 blocks in Pelotas, all as operator and having Shell as partner. Highlighted is Pelotas, the basin that represented the largest volume of revenue to the government in the auction. The event was also marked by the presence of Elysian, a company created in August to participate in the selection process.

Of the total of 602 blocks offered, fifteen oil companies acquired 192 exploratory blocks of oil and gas in Brazil in an auction by the regulatory agency ANP under a concession regime. The auction raised a total of 421.7 million reais for the government, with more than 70%, or 298.74 million reais, related to the Pelotas Basin.

ANP Exploration Basin Concession Auction

The National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) recently announced the holding of a concession auction for the exploration of oil basins. This auction aims to raise funds for the government, as well as to promote the presence of new investors in the oil and gas exploration sector.

ANP Regulator and the Concession Auction

The ANP, as the sector regulator, is responsible for conducting concession auctions for the exploration of oil and gas areas. These auctions aim to attract companies interested in forming consortiums for the exploration of the offered areas.

Analysis and Recommendation for Concession Auction

Before the auction takes place, the ANP conducts an analysis of the areas to be offered, taking into account the reserves of oil and gas, the existing concession contracts, the current production, as well as the technologies available for exploration.

Revenue and Interest in the Concession Auction

The concession auction results in the collection of resources for the government, which can be used for investments in various areas. In addition, the winning companies need to pay interest on the amounts won, which also contributes to revenue collection.

Exploratory Frontier and the Basins in Auction

The areas offered in concession auctions generally include sedimentary basins located in exploratory frontier regions, where there is significant potential for discovering new oil and gas reserves.

By promoting concession auctions, the ANP seeks to encourage the development of the oil and gas sector in Brazil, attracting investments and stimulating competition among companies interested in exploring the country’s rich reserves. Through the holding of well-structured auctions based on careful analysis, the agency can ensure a favorable environment for the growth of the energy industry, benefiting the economy as a whole.
