Who Can Participate and Priority for Spots
The selection process is primarily aimed at teachers from public basic education, permanent or temporary, who are already working with the Sociology curriculum component or related areas in state and municipal networks.
According to the notice, the access policy is aligned with the Professional Master’s Program for the Qualification of Public Basic Education Teachers and prioritizes active teachers.
In addition to being linked to the public network, a teaching degree recognized by the MEC is required.
Each candidate chooses, at the time of application, the associated institution where they wish to pursue the master’s degree, respecting the availability of local spots.
Course Structure and Academic Proposal
With a duration of 24 months, PROFSOCIO is a face-to-face course, with meetings on days and times defined by the participating centers.
Classes may occur from Monday to Saturday, depending on each university’s calendar.
The curriculum structure includes six mandatory subjects and one elective, totaling 360 hours, in addition to qualification and defense of a final project focused on teaching practice.
The area of concentration is Teaching Sociology.
According to the notice, the objective is to strengthen the ongoing training of teachers, integrate professionals into research networks, and produce teaching methodologies aimed at high school education.
The design of the program facilitates the articulation between sociological theory, research methods, and pedagogical interventions in the classroom.
Research Lines and Areas of Interest
The notice organizes the investigation into three axes.
The first, Education, School, and Society, examines the school system, educational inequalities, public policies, power relations, and the interaction between school, family, and community.
The second, Youth and Contemporary Issues, encompasses sexuality, gender, work, religion, media, environment, consumption, urbanities, and ruralities, always focusing on youth experiences.
The third, Teaching Practices and Curricular Content, focuses on the transposition of scientific knowledge into the school context, the selection of content, pedagogical mediation, teacher training, and the use of educational technologies.
By aligning the research project with one of these lines, the candidate demonstrates academic adherence and potential for direct impact on learning in high school.
Where the Spots Are and How Selection Works
The 246 spots are distributed among universities and public institutes in different states.
The network includes federal and state institutions, as well as the Joaquim Nabuco Foundation in Recife.
Each center defines the class schedule and registration procedures after the publication of results, maintaining simultaneous offerings across the country.
The selection occurs in two stages, conducted online.
In the first, applicants submit a letter of intent with formatting and content requirements as outlined in the notice, detailing their academic-professional trajectory, proposed topic, and alignment with one of the research lines.
In the second phase, there is a virtual defense of this letter before an evaluation panel.
The criteria consider clarity and consistency of the text, thematic adherence, theoretical-methodological mastery, and feasibility of the project within a two-year period.
Recognition, Scholarships, and Costs
PROFSOCIO confers a master’s degree in Sociology, with recognition from CAPES/MEC.
The course is free, with no tuition fees.
Regarding scholarships, the notice informs that there is no guarantee of granting; availability depends on the budgetary resources of funding agencies and specific calls for selecting scholarship holders.
Although the priority is the public network, the eventual distribution of scholarships follows its own rules and opportunities to be announced later.
Program Contributions to Basic Education
By combining theoretical training, applied research, and production of teaching materials and practices, PROFSOCIO seeks immediate results in the daily life of schools.
Projects often address challenges such as dropout, violence, scientific literacy, diversity, and student participation, developing didactic sequences, assessment tools, and low-cost interventions that can be replicated by other networks.
The expectation is that dissertations will translate into tested pedagogical solutions shared among teachers.
Documents and Care in the Application
To validate the application, it is essential to fully observe the requirements of the notice.
The letter of intent needs to follow the formatting standard and contain specific sections; supporting documents must be legible and compiled into a single PDF file within the indicated size limit.
Each applicant chooses only one center and must verify if their professional profile corresponds to the priority audience.
In the case of a person with a disability, there are provisions for specific conditions for carrying out the stages, upon request with a report.
Schedule and Attention to the Final Deadline
The application period ends tomorrow, October 18, 2025.
The subsequent stages include analysis of the letter, online defense, and disclosure of results according to the notice’s schedule.
As there are internal procedures at each associated institution, it is advisable to follow the official channels of PROFSOCIO and the chosen center to avoid missing registration deadlines and the start of classes in 2026.
How to Apply
Applications are made exclusively online, via the form indicated in the Notice 05/2025 from PROFSOCIO, with submission of the letter of intent and the supporting documents in a single file.
After submission, confirmation and further communications occur through the contacts provided by the applicant.

Que pena, que esta oferta de curso de mestrado não a distância. Tenho grande interesse, mas não estou conseguindo me encaixar na modalidade presencial.
