CMAA and Mitsui Gas Announce Biomethane Plant Between Uberlândia and Uberaba, with Investment of R$ 200 Million, Boosting Clean Energy and Industrial Competitiveness in Minas Gerais.
A strategic partnership between the Minas Gerais Sugar and Alcohol Company (CMAA) and multinational Mitsui Gas promises to transform the Triângulo Mineiro region into a reference in clean energy production. The announcement of the implementation of a biomethane plant between Uberaba and Uberlândia, in Minas Gerais, reinforces the state’s advancement towards a more sustainable and competitive energy model.
Agreement Consolidates Minas Gerais as an Emerging Clean Energy Hub
During the opening event of the 2025/2026 sugarcane harvest in Minas Gerais, held last Friday (25) at Vale do Tijuco Mill in Uberaba, a memorandum of understanding was signed for the construction of a biomethane production plant.
The project will involve an investment of approximately R$ 200 million and will be conducted through a joint venture between Mitsui Gas and Geo Bio Gas & Carbon, forming the company GEOMIT.

The first 100% Brazilian aviation fuel came from soybeans: SAF Petrobras delivered 3,000 m³ at Galeão and is preparing R$ 17.5 billion to dominate the world market by 2027.
The new unit will be installed between the municipalities of Uberaba and Uberlândia, regions that are already standing out in the sugar-energy chain and are now also gaining prominence in the renewable gas sector.
The investment aims to transform agribusiness waste into clean fuel, contributing to the decarbonization of the Brazilian energy matrix.
Biomethane Will Bring Competitiveness and Regional Development
According to the mayor of Uberlândia, Paulo Sérgio, the natural gas plant will have positive impacts on the local economy.
“We participated in the launch of the harvest of the largest sugar-alcohol company in our region, which generates thousands of jobs in the cities of Uberlândia and Uberaba. Today is a very special day because the city hall of Uberlândia and the city hall of Uberaba announced that both cities will have natural gas through a memorandum of intentions signed by the multinational Mitsui Gas with CMAA,” he stated.
The municipal executive also highlighted the gain in competitiveness for the industrial sector.
“The new plant will enable the production of natural gas that will give more competitiveness to our companies and industries. We continue to work to bring more investments, solutions, and development to our region.”
Prominent Attendees Reinforce the Project’s Importance
The event was attended by various authorities, including the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, the mayor of Uberaba, Elisa Araújo, and the Secretary of Government of São Paulo, Gilberto Kassab.
The participation of state and federal representatives underscores the relevance of the project for Brazil’s energy and environmental agenda.
With two mills totaling 3 million tons of production and an area planted of 30 thousand hectares, Uberlândia already moves R$ 600 million annually in the sector.
The municipality is also a hub for agribusiness services, with skilled labor, trade in machinery, pesticides, and specialized technical assistance.
About GEOMIT
The biomethane plant will be operated by GEOMIT, created in April 2024 from the union between Mitsui Gas and Geo Bio Gas & Carbon.
The new company combines Mitsui’s strong presence in gas infrastructure — with stakes in 13 Brazilian distributors — with Geo’s innovative technology for biomethane production from solid and liquid agro-industrial waste.
