MODEC Director Highlights Technological Evolution During Rio Innovation Week
The leadership of MODEC in offshore solutions for oil and gas production was evident at the third edition of Rio Innovation Week, the main stage for technology and innovation in Latin America, located at Pier Mauá in Rio de Janeiro. At the center of these discussions, Felipe Baldissera, a prominent figure at MODEC and also Vice President of Energy at Shape, shared his insights at the Energy Hub Summit, emphasizing the “Challenges and Opportunities in the Oil and Gas Sector.”
Toward an Energetic Future: Challenges and Perspectives
Looking ahead to the future of the energy matrix, the Energy Hub Summit explored technological revolutions in the sector and the shift to greener energy sources. Experts highlighted the imperative need to tackle sector challenges in an innovative and synergistic manner to foster sustainability.
-
The world has bet on green hydrogen as the fuel of the future, but now faces the side effect: producing 1 kilogram requires about 9 liters of ultrapure water, and the largest projects on the planet are precisely in the driest regions of the Earth, where water is already scarce for people.
-
Africa has about 500,000 cell towers and most still burn diesel to operate, while companies rush to cover antennas with solar energy and avoid signal blackouts.
-
Farmers swapped diesel for solar panels in Pakistan, powered irrigation pumps almost cost-free, expanded rice fields, and now groundwater has become a red alert in the countryside.
-
Migrant workers left the world’s largest renewable energy park in India after extreme heat, 12-hour shifts, delayed wages, and poor accommodations at a site that still promises to supply 18 million homes.
“As we look to the horizon, oil and gas maintain their relevance in the energy landscape. However, the sector is undergoing a metamorphosis, shifting from a traditional commodities market to a focus on efficiency and sustainability. To adapt and thrive, the application of technology, collaboration, and continuous innovation are crucial,” Baldissera highlighted.
He detailed the innovative trajectory of MODEC, citing the company’s commitment to cutting-edge technology. “The partnership between MODEC and Shape Digital has deepened in integrating artificial intelligence into operational routines. We are reaping the benefits of this approach: fewer failures, better management, cost reduction, and, crucially, safer and more sustainable operations,” he noted.
MODEC: A Beacon of Innovation and Sustainable Development
MODEC’s prominent presence at Rio Innovation Week reaffirmed the company’s commitment to being a vector of innovation and sustainable progress in the oil and gas universe. Baldissera emphasized: “We are here to present our innovation journey, reflecting how we are meeting industrial and social demands. Brazil, with its range of potential, and Rio, as an emerging technology hub, represent ideal scenarios for this exchange.”
The positive and intense engagement of the audience during the MODEC panel made clear the prominent role that the company holds. “The interest and engagement of the audience validate our relevance in the market,” Baldissera affirmed.
