The New Bicycle Promises to Deliver Performance Similar to That of a Conventional Motorcycle. Check It Out!

The California startup Chimera BMX is ready to revolutionize the world of electric bicycles with the launch of the Shadow Chimera, an e-bike that promises to combine the lightness and simplicity of conventional bicycles with the power and acceleration of a motorcycle. The project, which started as a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo in 2022, is now advancing with an improved and more accessible version, equipped with a more durable steel frame and a titanium body for better aerodynamics and lightweight.

The Balance Between Power and Practicality

The new BMX electric bicycle from Chimera has been designed to fill a gap in the market, offering an option that sits between conventional bicycles and high-powered electric motorcycles. According to Austin Duggan, the founder of the startup, the goal was to create a sleek and simple bicycle that is easy to transport and store, yet powerful and durable enough to face challenges like urban traffic and steep hills.

The new e-bike from Chimera BMX features a series of technological innovations to ensure exceptional performance. With an independent electric motor and transmission connected by a belt, the bicycle offers 3,800 W of silent and instant acceleration. Additionally, it is available in two removable battery variants:

  • The Commuter version, with a 36 V/15Ah battery, a top speed of 42 km/h, and a range of 64 km;
  • The Competitor version, with a 52 V/8.4 Ah battery, a top speed of 48 km/h in 5 seconds, and a range of 56 km/h.

Price and Availability of the New Electric Bicycle

The new BMX electric bicycle from Chimera will be available for pre-order on the brand’s website starting February 13, with deliveries scheduled for August of this year. The starting price is US$ 2,890, approximately R$ 14,360 at the current exchange rate. The production of the electric bicycle will be limited to 100 manually assembled units, following the success of the 2022 version, which raised over US$ 110,000 on Indiegogo and had a limited run delivered to supporters at the end of last year.

Why Choose Electric Bicycles?

  • Easy Pedaling: The electric motor assists the cyclist, especially on hills and steeper terrain, making pedaling easier and less tiring.
  • Greater Range: With the motor’s assistance, it is possible to cover greater distances with less effort, which is ideal for urban commuting or longer trips.
  • Sustainability: Being powered by electricity, e-bikes are more sustainable than traditional motorized vehicles, contributing to the reduction of pollutant emissions.
  • Health and Well-Being: Despite the electric assistance, cycling is still a form of physical exercise, which can bring benefits for cardiovascular and muscular health.
