Planned City Proposal Between Florianópolis and Joinville Aims to Anticipate Occupation Challenges, Organize Growing Mobility, and Expand the Region’s Tourist and Economic Potential

The Floriville new city project emerges as an alternative to deal with population growth on the Santa Catarina coast, as the region experiences continuous expansion. The idea, attributed to former Tourism Minister Vinicius Lummertz, seeks to establish a planned city between Florianópolis and Joinville.

Today, approximately 4 million people live in this urban corridor.

This number reinforces the need for a model that anticipates problems and organizes occupation, hence the project’s relevance.

The recent growth of Porto Belo exemplifies how rapid expansion pressures services, mobility, and infrastructure.

Additionally, the proposal attempts to respond to a scenario where a dynamic economy and tourism attract new residents.

Infrastructure and Mobility

The connection between Joinville and Florianópolis includes important ports and airports, ensuring support for the movement of people and goods.

Nonetheless, projections indicate risks of congestion. Therefore, the Floriville Project advocates for a unified planning among all the municipalities involved.

The idea is to adjust routes, forecast demands, and reduce bottlenecks, as the region handles intense flows year-round. Both public and private sectors are seen as pillars of this construction.

This cooperation is considered essential to maintain economic balance and preserve quality of life.

Boosting Tourism and the Economy of the New City

In addition to organizing housing and mobility, Floriville can strengthen local tourism.

The sector plays a decisive role in the economy of Santa Catarina; therefore, structural improvements expand the capacity to receive visitors.

The expectation is to create conditions to promote new investments and bolster industrial activities. The region already stands out for its landscapes and natural attractions.

This scenario shows how well-structured urban growth can generate positive impacts on regional development.

More Project Details

Floriville is presented as a “horizontal” city planned to occupy the corridor between Florianópolis and Joinville, on the Santa Catarina coast.

The proposal aims to articulate orderly urbanization, with a structure designed for housing, mobility, and integrated economic activities.

In this planning, it intends to organize land occupation in a coordinated manner, preventing the disordered growth that affects municipalities in the region.

This includes urban design that prioritizes residential zones, service areas, and transportation infrastructure with pathways adapted to demographic and tourist growth.

To ensure viability, the project relies on cooperation between the public and private sectors. Joint participation aims to facilitate infrastructure works, plan land use, and provide incentives for new enterprises.

Another highlighted feature is the focus on regional integration. Floriville emerges as a strategy to overcome existing bottlenecks in the region’s traditional road network, such as congestion on the BR-101, and offer alternative routes that alleviate traffic between northern and southern Santa Catarina.

The project also sees in Floriville an opportunity to expand tourism and the local economy in a balanced way.

With proper urban planning, the city could attract new investments, generate job opportunities, and ensure contemporary infrastructure without compromising quality of life.

Although promising, Floriville is still in the proposal phase. So far, there are no defined public estimates about future population, total area, or construction schedule—information like this should emerge as the plan progresses.

Floriville represents a future bet: a new city designed to grow in an orderly manner, unite municipalities, and meet the increasing demand of the Santa Catarina coast.

Bela proposta, enquanto ideia. Não vejo elementos básicos de sustentação para um projeto dessa envergadura. A realidade atual joga contra.
