The difficulties affected the mobile app and access via browsers on computers and smart TVs. According to Downdetector, about 70% of error reports in Brazil came from the app.
YouTube Instability Affected Associated Services
In a post on social media, the company stated that the issue was caused by a failure in the recommendation system.
The error prevented the display of videos and the updating of the feed, in addition to impacting linked services such as YouTube Music, YouTube Kids, and YouTube TV.
The instability quickly reverberated on social media, particularly on platform X, formerly Twitter, where users shared messages and memes about the interruption.
The digital movement highlighted the extent of the failure and the public’s reliance on the service.
About two hours after the problems began, the company announced that functionality had been restored and thanked users for their patience while technical teams worked on a solution.
As of now (February 18), no detailed analysis of the causes of the failure has been released, apart from preliminary information related to the recommendation system, which raises questions about the origin of the incident.
