According to information from the Odebrecht group, OEC won with a proposal, at a global price — in euros — equivalent to R$ 209.6 million. The project will be financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and is scheduled for completion in 16 months.
The new water supply system will expand the existing one in the city, which dates back to 1974 and has undergone updates in recent years. The project plans to capture water from the São Francisco River in the municipalities of Ibiaí and Coração de Jesus, with the construction of 92.5 KM of adductor pipelines. Under the contract, OEC will also carry out the commissioning, pre-operation, and assisted operation of the system.

Miami is investing US$16 million to pump new sand onto beaches that have already been nourished 51 times since the 1930s, and Palm Beach, which has received more artificial sand than any other American city, needs to repeat the operation every few years because the Atlantic returns everything that cost millions to put there.
The contract manager of OEC, responsible for the works, Clebio Batista, states that a gradual warming of the infrastructure sector is noticeable. “This is the sixth contract that OEC has secured in the last five months, among public and private clients. The outlook for faster acceleration in the sector is also positive due to the new Sanitation Framework.”
In a recent interview with Valor, shortly after taking over as president of OEC, Marco Siqueira stated that in the company’s new strategy, sanitation would be one of the areas of expansion for OEC, with several actions planned for this segment.
The engineering and construction company of the Odebrecht group reported that 240 job openings will be generated in the region during the works.
Also in Minas Gerais, the Odebrecht construction company was chosen by Fundação Renova to continue the works for the expansion of the adductor system in Governador Valadares. The foundation is responsible for managing the entire process of environmental remediation caused by the rupture of the Fundão dam, operated by the mining company Samarco, which occurred on November 5, 2015.
According to OEC, the contract is valued at R$ 155 million and is expected to generate 550 job openings at the peak of the works. The new adductor will carry water from the Corrente Grande River to three Water Treatment Stations.
The project, the company says, is a commitment from Fundação Renova to the city government of Governador Valadares, the federal government, and the governments of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. The project began in July 2018, and its completion is estimated for the second half of 2021.
