Inaugurated last month in Alfenas, Icro Digital and the Predictive Analytics Center (CAP) place the state of Minas Gerais on the select list of locations in the world that develop technologies aimed at the so-called Industry 4.0.
The Brazilian startup Icro Digital, recently incubated at NidusTec and the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Agency of the Federal University of Alfenas (UNIFAL-MG), has been fostering research focused on cutting-edge technology through specialists and students in engineering and computer science. The goal is to develop new technologies that will be applied to machines in the industrial sector.
“These are technologies that use artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, virtual reality, and augmented reality. The objective is to remotely manage industrial equipment based on data extracted through systems, thereby ensuring the protection, conservation, and productivity of assets during their lifecycle,” explains the Director of Development, Strategy, and Innovation at Icro Group, Armando Marsarioli.
According to the director, the initiative benefits not only the industrial sector but also the academic environment. “At Icro Digital, the research will be applied in practice, meaning it won’t be limited to the academic environment. This fosters a very positive connection, in terms of development, between the university and market practices,” states Armando.

The director of NidusTec, Izabella Carneiro Bastos, who is also the coordinator of the LAPEE – Applied Research Laboratory in Energy Efficiency and a faculty member of the Institute of Science and Technology, agrees: “Icro Digital is a startup linked to the Icro Group company, a multinational rich in the development of new technologies. We will all learn a great deal from the company. With its arrival, we believe that Alfenas could become a reference for meeting the demands imposed by Industry 4.0,” she said.
First Online Monitoring Center for Industrial Machines.
Also inaugurated last month in Alfenas, the CAP will be the first Online Monitoring Center for Industrial Machines in Minas Gerais and will become an international reference for remotely managing, in real-time, the performance of equipment. “Our sensors are installed on the machines and extract important data, which improves decision-making and provides greater predictability against premature or unforeseen failures, increasing factory productivity and even minimizing accident risks,” said Marsarioli.
