CIP And Ignitis Renewables Win Auction In Estonia For Offshore Wind Power Installation.
Aker Offshore Wind won an auction to build an offshore wind farm off the coast of South Korea as part of the country’s plans to increase the share of renewable energy in its energy matrix.
Aker Offshore Wind’s proposal was US $ 1.6 billion for the adjacent maritime area of Ulleungdo, securing the rights for the development of an offshore wind facility, with the expectation that the energy generated by winds at sea will significantly contribute to the country’s ocean renewable energy production.
The Maritime Area Of Liivi 1 And Liivi 2
Located in the Gulf of Riga, northwest of Ruhnu Island, near the Estonian Baltic Sea coast, the maritime area of Liivi 1 and Liivi 2 covers a total of approximately 193 km2.

Potential Offshore Wind Capacity
Although the theoretical potential capacity of both sites is estimated at 2.3 GW, depending on the results of the environmental impact assessment, site optimization, as well as other factors, the actual capacity of offshore wind energy is expected to be between 1 and 1.5 GW.
Operation Forecast For 2035
The project is expected to be operational around 2035, said the partners.
Electronic Auction
The auction took place electronically from January 11 to 17, 2024. The Estonian Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority (CPTRA), which organized the auction, is expected to officially confirm the winner within three business days after the announcement of the auction results.
