Petrobras started 2026 with a historic milestone by registering an average production of 3.23 million barrels of oil equivalent per day in the first quarter. The result places the state-owned company at a new operational level and reinforces its position as one of the world’s leading energy companies.
Furthermore, the performance reflects a combination of strategic factors, including the entry of new platforms, increased productivity, and the expansion of pre-salt operations, which continues to be Petrobras’ main growth driver.

Petrobras’ record production grows over 16% in one year, showing consistent progress in the sector
The result achieved by Petrobras represents significant growth across different comparisons. Compared to the same period last year, production increased by 16.1%, while compared to the previous quarter, there was a rise of 3.7%.

This performance does not occur in isolation. On the contrary, it reflects a consistent trajectory of operational growth, driven mainly by the expansion of oil and gas production in strategic areas.
At the same time, Petrobras demonstrates the ability to increase production without compromising efficiency, which reinforces its competitiveness in the global scenario.
Pre-salt leads Petrobras’ growth and concentrates most of Brazil’s production
A large part of Petrobras’ advancement is directly linked to the pre-salt, which has consolidated itself as the company’s main production hub. Currently, about 82% of total production comes from these areas, highlighting their strategic relevance.
Furthermore, proprietary pre-salt production reached approximately 2.66 million barrels per day, also setting a new record for this segment.
In this context, regions such as the Santos Basin stand out, as they concentrate some of the country’s most productive fields and drive Petrobras’ continuous growth.

New platforms and wells boost Petrobras’ production and expand operational capacity
Another decisive factor for Petrobras’ record involves the entry into operation of new assets. During the first quarter, the state-owned company began production from 10 new wells, seven in the Campos Basin and three in the Santos Basin.
In addition, strategic platforms contributed directly to the increase in production. Among them, units such as:
- P-78, in the Búzios field
- Alexandre de Gusmão, in the Mero field
- Anna Nery and Anita Garibaldi, in Marlim and Voador
These structures significantly expand extraction capacity and allow for greater operational stability, contributing to more consistent results over time.
Petrobras’ strategic fields break individual records and reinforce operational efficiency
In addition to the overall record, Petrobrás also achieved significant milestones in specific fields. In the Búzios field, for example, production reached 1.037 million barrels in a single day, demonstrating the high level of productivity in the area.
Meanwhile, in the Mero field, production exceeded 700,000 barrels daily, solidifying its position as one of the company’s most relevant assets.
At the same time, gas exports also registered expressive numbers, with record volumes in both Búzios and the Santos Basin, reinforcing the diversification of Petrobrás’ production.
Operational efficiency and loss reduction help Petrobrás reach new production levels
Petrobrás’ growth does not depend solely on physical expansion. The company has also made significant advances in operational efficiency, reducing losses and improving the continuity of operations.
According to released data, the state-owned company managed to reduce maintenance shutdowns and increase production stability, which directly contributed to the record result.
Furthermore, the use of advanced technologies and improvements in operational processes allowed for more predictable oil extraction, reducing costs and increasing profitability.

Petrobrás reinforces strategic position in the global energy market with increased production
With the new record, Petrobrás strengthens its position on the international stage, especially at a time marked by high energy demand and instability in the global oil market.
Furthermore, the company expands its export capacity, which contributes to the balance of Brazil’s trade balance and increases its economic relevance.
At the same time, production growth occurs in a context of energy transition, where companies need to balance the expansion of fossil fuels with investments in cleaner sources.
Petrobrás’ record production indicates a trend of continuous growth in the coming years
Given the results presented, the trend is for Petrobrás to continue expanding its production in the coming years, driven mainly by the development of new pre-salt projects.
In addition, the entry of new platforms and technological advancements should contribute to maintaining the growth trajectory, consolidating the company as one of the global leaders in the sector.
At the same time, the challenge will be to balance this growth with demands for sustainability and emissions reduction, which are gaining increasing prominence in the global energy scenario.
