With An Increase of More Than 50% In Relation to 2020 Expenses, Petrobras Reports Having Invested More Than 2 Billion Reais In Refinery Maintenance
On the last Wednesday (01/19), Petrobras stated that it made an investment of R$ 2.3 billion last year in preventive maintenance shutdowns of refineries, setting a record. According to the state-owned company, the amount represents an increase of more than half of the value from 2020 and more than 20% in relation to the previous record from 2019.

With the highest rate in the last 5 years, Petrobras ended 2021 with an average absolute utilization factor of 83% of its refineries, even with all the preventive maintenance shutdowns.
During the planned shutdowns of the refineries, maintenance is performed on the industrial units, with repairs, inspections, and replacements of equipment when necessary. According to Petrobras, more than 4,000 pieces of equipment had to be inspected.

Rodrigo Costa, Director of Refining and Natural Gas at Petrobras, states: “We are heavily invested in a culture of prevention and always strive for excellence in safety.” According to him, Petrobras also provided employee training, not just the scheduled maintenance shutdowns.
“Our main goal is to ensure safety and operational continuity, as well as to adapt the production capacities of the units, seeking the most efficient and safest use of the assets,” the director added.
With the goal of maintaining 4,500 pieces of equipment this year, Petrobras plans to spend R$ 2.5 billion on maintenance shutdowns of units at the refineries.
Pre-Salt
Petrobras Achieved An Annual Production Record In The Pre-Salt Last Year, Reaching 1 Million and 950 Thousand Barrels of Oil Equivalent Per Day (boed). This Volume Represents 70% of The Company’s Overall Production, Which Was 2.77 Million boed In 2021. The Last Record Was In 2020, When Petrobras Reached The Mark of 1.86 Million Barrels of Oil Equivalent Per Day, Corresponding to 66% of The Company’s Production.
In Petrobras’ Strategic Plan 2020-2026, US$ 6.1 billion is earmarked for investment in refineries over the next 5 years. According to the company, it will undertake projects to position itself among the best refineries on the planet in terms of performance and operational efficiency, with products that have higher added value and emit lower amounts of carbon.
