The Signed Cooperation Agreement Renews, For Another Five Years, Petrobras’ Collaboration With The Navy, Which Has Existed For Over 30 Years

Petrobras signed on Thursday, August 8th, the renewal of a technical-scientific partnership to enable the sustainable exploration and utilization of marine resources.

The estimated investment is R$ 400 million, which, according to the company’s president, Roberto Castello Branco, “will provide continuity for research in the ‘Brazilian blue Amazon’ and in the Antarctic continent.”

The signing ceremony of the cooperation terms with the Brazilian Navy, supported by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), took place at Petrobras’ research center, Cenpes, located on Fundão Island, in the northern zone of Rio de Janeiro.

In addition to funding the projects, the company will also contribute with technical knowledge and will participate in scientific missions.

“The new cooperation agreement between Petrobras and the Navy guarantees, for another five years, the company’s support in the scientific missions of the Sectoral Plan for Marine Resources (PSRM) and the Brazilian Antarctic Program (Proantar), which are coordinated by the Secretariat of the Interministerial Commission for Marine Resources (SECIRM),” the company informed in a statement.

The State-Owned Company Boosts Its Profits By Focusing On Deepwater Exploration

The strategy is helping Petrobras cut costs while raising billions of dollars from asset sales. The state-owned company’s exclusive focus on deepwater exploration is generating good results for Brazil.

With a focus on exploration along the coast of Rio de Janeiro, the company continues with asset sales: this year the state-owned firm raised US$ 8.6 billion from the sale of the TAG pipeline unit and US$ 2.3 billion by divesting from a majority stake in BR, the largest fuel distributor in the country.
