With about five days of operation, the first shipment to the terminal at Açu Port was supplied by the tanker Kmarin Emerald from BP.
According to Açu Natural Gas, the LNG was transferred to the FSRU BW Magna, an integral part of the asset, which has the capacity to regasify and move up to 21 million cubic meters of gas per day.
“We have completed another important phase of the GNA project with great efficiency… We are getting closer to the commercial operation of our first plant,” said Bernardo Perseke, the CEO of GNA.
According to BP, the operation with natural gas is “a milestone” for Brazil’s energy transition. The company’s president in Brazil, Mario Lindenhayn, also believes that gas plays a role in the company’s environmental goals.
“We have the ambition to be a carbon-neutral company by 2050, and gas is part of this process. The arrival of the first LNG shipment is a milestone for the progress of the project that will bring even more investments and diversity to the Brazilian energy portfolio,” he stated.
