Contracts for Wind Energy Projects in the State of Rio Grande do Norte
The forecast is for more than R$ 1.4 billion to be invested in the implementation of projects in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. In total, there are 20 new wind power plants scheduled to start operations from 2024 and 2025, in addition to 350.6 MW contracted for energy generation. This amount to be invested in the state is nearly three times the amount contracted by the second-place state in the auction, São Paulo, which was 131 MW.
The state currently has over 20 wind power generation companies with operating projects, according to a bulletin released by the State Development Secretariat in March. Additionally, there are more than 180 projects in operation, placing the state in a leading national position in installed capacity, with 5.2 GW. Rio Grande do Norte also has around 52 projects under construction (1.8 GW) and another 78 already contracted (3.1 GW).

State Has “Privileged” Geographical Position
The Secretary of Economic Development, Jaime Calado, stated that 14 of the world’s largest wind energy companies are in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. Jaime also mentioned that professional qualifications, along with the privileged geography, are the main attractions of the state.
According to the secretary, the state has several courses aimed specifically at the wind energy market, thus generating quality jobs. In addition, they have formed a working group composed of researchers and other agents, specifically focused on renewable energies, which will further enhance this work they are developing, with incentives and innovation.
