Those interested in free PhD programs in public universities can now find announcements more easily through the More Teachers Training Portal, a platform by the Ministry of Education that gathers in-person and online courses for initial, continuing, and graduate education aimed at basic education teachers.
Although the tool centralizes opportunities in different regions of the country, the selection processes continue to be conducted individually by the universities, which are responsible for entry criteria, evaluation stages, official schedules, and all documentation required from candidates.
MEC Portal concentrates free PhD announcements
Within the More Teachers for Brazil program, the Training Portal was developed to expand access to academic qualification courses and facilitate the search for free opportunities in public universities and institutes spread across the national territory.

UFFS opens positions for Master’s and PhD in Education
Among the institutions with open selection, the Federal University of the Southern Frontier announced a selection process for the Professional Graduate Program in Education, at the Erechim campus, with 44 positions for professional Master’s and PhD planned for entry in the second semester of 2026.
According to information released by the university, 24 positions are allocated for the Master’s and another 20 for the PhD, including reservations for affirmative actions and registration conducted entirely online within the deadline stated in the announcement.
While the Master’s requires a degree recognized by the MEC and work related to the educational field, the PhD requires a Master’s diploma recognized by Capes, in addition to presenting the academic documents defined by the selection committee.
Unifesp offers 37 positions in free PhD
Also in the field of Education, the Federal University of São Paulo published a call for applications for the doctoral program in 2027, offering 37 spots distributed among faculty members linked to the research lines maintained by the institution’s graduate program.
In addition to confirming the number of spots, the call emphasizes the need for full compliance with the academic schedule, as each university sets its own rules for document analysis, interviews, curriculum evaluation, and presentation of the research project.
In this type of selection, early preparation often makes a difference, especially for candidates who still need to adjust the research topic, organize academic publications, and align the project with the lines developed by the program’s advisors.
UERGS keeps applications open in Education
In Rio Grande do Sul, the State University of Rio Grande do Sul is among the institutions with open opportunities for advanced training in Education, including spots for a master’s and professional doctorate within the university’s graduate program.
According to the announcements related to the 2026 call, the course seeks to expand the training of researchers and professionals connected to the educational field, focusing on academic studies and projects aimed at the development of the area.
Before completing the application, however, it is recommended to check directly in the UERGS academic system all the requirements set by the institution, including deadlines, fees, mandatory documents, and possible additional stages of the selection process.
Most common requirements in doctoral programs
In general, doctoral programs require a recognized master’s degree, an updated academic curriculum, a research project aligned with the course lines, and participation in evaluation stages defined by the committee responsible for each selection.
