The Program Collected and Analyzed Samples of Gasoline, Ethanol, and Diesel Oil at Gas Stations Across Brazil

In 2019, 97% of the fuels analyzed by the Fuel Quality Monitoring Program (PMQC) of ANP were within the quality standards set by the Agency (compliance index). The program collects and analyzes samples of gasoline C, hydrated ethanol, and diesel B at gas stations in the country and publishes monthly quality indicators for these products.

The three fuels maintained the quality standard observed in recent years (within international standards), with an improvement in the index compared to 2018. Brazilian gasoline had a compliance rate of 98.3% in 2019, compared to 98.1% in 2018; ethanol had 98.2%, compared to 97.9% the previous year; while diesel had 96.2%, compared to 94.9%.

The regions with the best compliance rates were Southeast and South, with 98% each. Next came the Northeast Region, with 97%, and the North and Midwest Regions, with 96% each.

The Fuel Quality Monitoring Program is undergoing restructuring, starting with the definition of a new PMQC model by Resolution No. 790 of 2019. The new regulations establish that ANP will conduct bids to define the laboratories eligible to participate in the Program, which will be contracted by economic agents (resellers, TRR and distributors). The Agency is currently preparing a pilot project that will be implemented in three Federal Units (GO, DF, and AM).
