In an Interview with Canal Rural, Presidential Candidate Lula Commented on the Presidential Election and His Plans for the Agribusiness and National Fuels Market. He Aims to Bring Brazil Back to a State of Self-Sufficiency in Oil Production in the Future.
With the race for the presidential election nearing its end, candidate Lula made new statements about his plans for the national economy in the future. Last Tuesday (09/20), he participated in an interview with Canal Rural and stated that he intends to strengthen ties with agribusiness and invest in the fuels market. Furthermore, he hopes to have the opportunity to make Brazil self-sufficient in oil production again.
Presidential Election: Lula Intends to Make Strong Investments for the Growth of the Fuels Market Focused on National Oil in the Future
The current scenario of fuels in the Brazilian market is quite unstable, due to the Federal Government’s plan for divestments from Petrobras assets and the lack of investments in important areas, such as refineries.
In this way, opposition candidates in the presidential race are mobilizing to present their proposals for the sector should they win the elections.

Japan announces release of more than 36 million barrels of oil in May
Former President Lula, who is currently competing to regain his position in 2023, made some statements on the subject during his interview with Canal Rural and said he intends to invest heavily in national oil over the next few years, if he achieves victory.
His main criticism of the current Brazilian market for fuels is the need for product imports, given that the necessary investments for national refineries are lacking, directly impacting internal supply.
Thus, he stated that if elected again by the Brazilian people, he will work with both agribusiness and the oil and gas sector to make Brazil self-sufficient again in fuel production.
“I will try to make Brazil self-sufficient in oil again,” Lula declared in the interview. “BR Distribuidora was destroyed because it was a monopoly. Today we have 392 companies importing gasoline from the United States,” the candidate added.
The current president Jair Bolsonaro has been placing the blame for the lack of investments in the national fuels market, particularly regarding refineries, on the PT.
Therefore, Lula intends to address these claims and present a truly viable project for the future of national oil.
Brazil Has Strong Growth Potential in the Agribusiness Market at an International Level, Says Former President Lula
In addition to commenting on the current situation of fuels in the national territory, the PT candidate also stated that he plans to invest in agribusiness if he wins the presidential election.
He further stated that although he ideologically disagrees with the agribusiness market on various points, he believes that this sector is essential and indispensable to the Brazilian economy and intends to treat it with due respect in the coming years.
The candidate emphasized that Brazil is a unique country with extraordinary growth potential, especially in agriculture, even during times of global crisis, and also has strong potential regarding oil.
Over the past 30 years, Brazil has undergone a true technological and industrial revolution, and with the necessary investments in fuels and agribusiness, he intends to continue the country’s expansion in the sector, as he stated in the interview with Canal Rural.
Finally, Lula highlighted that the main problem of the national market currently is the lack of openness to foreign trade.
Thus, if elected again, the former president stated that he intends to return to the international agribusiness context seen during his government, with good worldwide relations.
