Shell Invests in Victory Gas Field in the North Sea, Contributing to Energy Generation and Reduction of Operational Emissions.
Shell recently announced its final investment decision (FID) on the Victory gas project, located in the North Sea, about 47 km northwest of the Shetland Islands.
This move by Shell will further strengthen the company’s position as a leader in the energy sector, contributing to domestic gas production to meet Britain’s residential and corporate demand. Additionally, the Victory gas field will have a significant impact on the country’s energy generation, complementing the existing infrastructure of the Greater Laggan Area.
The Role of Shell in the North Sea and Energy Security
The North Sea of the United Kingdom is crucial as a national resource, ensuring a steady supply of essential fuels. At the same time, it strengthens the country’s energy security and resilience. Continuous investment is needed to sustain domestic production, which is declining faster than the demand for oil and gas from the UK,’ said Simon Roddy, Senior Vice President of Shell UK Upstream.

The Importance of Domestic Oil and Gas Production
According to the regulator, the North Sea Transition Authority, only 38% of the gas consumption in the UK in 2022 was produced domestically – the rest was imported.
The Victory Gas Field: An Important Energy Source for the North Sea
The Victory gas field is expected to come online in the mid-decade and, at its peak, will produce enough gas to heat nearly 900,000 homes per year.
Processing and Infrastructure of the Victory Gas Field
The gas from Victory will be processed onshore at the Shetland gas plant before being piped to the UK mainland to enter the National Grid at St Fergus, where Shell UK is also helping to develop the Acorn Carbon Capture and Storage project.
Operational Emissions and Sustainability
As Victory will be linked to existing infrastructure, its operational emissions are expected to be lower than many of the current emissions from the UK. Gas fields of the North Sea.
