Aiming to Walk Together Towards Sustainability, Shell Brazil and Gerdau Established Ideas for a Joint Venture to Invest in the Installation of a New Solar Power Plant in MG
Shell Brazil and Gerdau have formed a cooperation partnership to invest in a solar power plant in the municipality of Brasilândia de Minas, in Minas Gerais (MG). The partnership sets initial ideas for the creation and discussion of a new joint venture.

The plant named Aquarii will have an installed capacity of 190 MW and will provide a portion of sustainable energy to the free energy market, through Shell’s energy trading company, and another portion to Gerdau’s steel production units, starting in 2024. The solar energy joint venture will have equal participation from both companies and is part of the companies’ decarbonization and energy transition strategy.
This is a voluntary step by Shell Brazil in offering more services and products derived from renewable energy, which is fully aligned with Gerdau’s pursuit of a cleaner energy matrix.

According to the executive, the presence of an ally like Gerdau on this path fills the company with pride and is a point of confidence in this purpose, in Shell and its ability as a creator of energy solutions for consumers.
Gerdau Executive Talks About the Partnership with Shell
The Vice President of Gerdau, Juliano Prado, adds that the joint venture to develop and operate the solar power plant in MG is part of a larger plan for investments in sustainable energies in the Americas.
The initiative strengthens the commitment to include ESG factors and the company’s long-term vision as essential pillars for the company’s decisions.
