Dutch Shell Will Bring A New FPSO To The Gato Do Mato Field In The Santos Basin For The Brazilian Oil And Gas Offshore Market
The Dutch oil company Shell launched the bidding for the FPSO at the Gato do Mato field in the Santos Basin in the first quarter of last year and has just received 2 proposals for the construction of the unit. One from Modec and another from BW/Saipem. The market bets on the victory of the consortium formed by BW/Saipem due to the much lower price compared to Modec.

Shell Contract Will Be For 15 Years With Possibility Of Renewal
The Shell contract will be for 15 years of charter with the possibility of renewal for two 5-year periods. This will be the return of BW and Saipem, who haven’t won FPSO operation contracts in Brazil for years.
The Gato do Mato FPSO in the Santos Basin underwent an upgrade and increased from 60,000 barrels/day to 90,000, and will also have the capacity to compress 8.5 million m³/day of natural gas and store up to 1 million barrels. Its first oil is expected between 2023 and 2024.

Natural Gas
Shell is exploring two options for natural gas. The first is injection. The second is evacuation through a new section of pipeline with already installed offshore infrastructure, which could be the PMXL-1 platform in the Mexilhão field or the production system of the Uruguá field, both in the Santos Basin.
The subsea system will feature flexible pipes, jumpers, subsea Christmas trees, pipeline end terminals (PLET), inline sleds (ILS), pipeline end manifolds (PLEMS), steel flying leads (SFL), and electrical flying leads (EFL). The total approximate length of the production flowlines will be 69 km, 27 km of water injection flowlines, and 22 km of gas injection flowlines. If feasible, the pipeline that will connect the FPSO to the PMXL-1 platforms in the Mexilhão field or to the Uruguá field will be 114 km and 79 km, respectively.
