New Google Model Reduces ChatGPT Advantage and Accelerates AI Race in the Global Technology Market.
A Artificial Intelligence has entered a new phase of global competition after Google announced a more advanced AI model. In response, OpenAI launched GPT-5.2, intensifying the competition in Technology and redefining ChatGPT‘s positioning in the market.
The movement, recorded in recent weeks, involves large companies, startups, and investors, especially in the United States. Furthermore, it occurs at a strategic moment for the financial and technological future of the sector.
Technical Difference Between AI Models Decreases
Shortly after the announcement of Google’s new model, analysts began to assess that the technical gap between the so-called fundamental models of Artificial Intelligence has practically ceased to exist. Industry experts point out that leading laboratories have already mastered the “general format” necessary to build these technologies.

“The general format of what is needed to build fundamental models is well understood — and it is happening in a practically identical manner within all major AI laboratories,” said Rayan Krishnan, CEO of Vals AI, a company specializing in comparative testing.
OpenAI Reacts and Reinforces ChatGPT as Central Product
Less than a month after Google’s announcement, OpenAI launched GPT-5.2 and claimed that the model is “the best model so far for professional use in the real world.” According to the company, the new version achieved the best results in programming, mathematics, and science benchmarks.
Despite this, the reaction reveals a strategic concern. OpenAI is facing a delicate moment in trying to balance costs and revenues, even with the widespread popularity of ChatGPT, used weekly by more than 800 million people.
Financial Pressure Accelerates Strategic Decisions
By the end of 2025, OpenAI expects to achieve revenue equivalent to US$ 20 billion per year, according to Sam Altman, the company’s CEO. Still, the company remains far from profitability and plans to invest about US$ 1.4 trillion in computing capacity over the coming years.
Meanwhile, Altman sent an internal “red code” memo following Google’s announcement, requesting full focus on improvements to ChatGPT. The goal, therefore, was to protect the company’s main business asset.
Competition Intensifies in the Technology Market
In addition to Google, other companies have quickly advanced. Anthropic launched Claude Opus 4.5, while Runway introduced a model that surpassed Sora, OpenAI’s video technology, according to industry benchmarks.
This scenario demonstrates that the Technology and Artificial Intelligence market has entered a phase of technical convergence, where multiple models show similar performance in complex tasks.
ChatGPT Monetization Gains Priority
ChatGPT continues to be OpenAI’s main source of revenue. About 6% of users pay US$ 20 monthly for advanced versions, and the company is also considering monetizing the free version, including with advertisements — a cultural shift for a startup that previously distinguished itself from giants like Google and Meta.
“Consumer AI is OpenAI,” said Krishnan. “If that disappears for them, the company wouldn’t be nearly as valuable.”
Corporate Artificial Intelligence Grows in Parallel
Although the focus is on ChatGPT, OpenAI is also expanding its presence in the corporate market. Internally, executives describe the company as having two distinct operations: one aimed at consumers and another focused on businesses.
Code generation tools have become a significant source of revenue, with developers paying up to US$ 200 monthly. Furthermore, the company is already training models for areas like healthcare and finance.
“Coding technologies are truly changing the way people in Silicon Valley do things,” said Wei-Lin Chiang, founder of LMArena. “That will also happen in other industries.”
Artificial Intelligence Market Enters a New Phase
With Google, OpenAI, and other companies reducing technical differences, the Artificial Intelligence market is advancing to a stage characterized by efficiency, personalization, and commercial scale. In this context, the future of Technology will depend less on who has the best isolated model and more on who can transform AI into sustainable, accessible, and profitable products.
