Representatives of SINAVAL Participated in the Seminar to Discuss the Advances of Brazilian Naval Industry
The national shipbuilding industry is starting to show signs of growth, and its main representatives are demanding more infrastructure and development for the sector from political authorities. The president of SINAVAL, Ariovaldo Rocha, chose the theme “The Future of the Naval Industry, the Role of Industrial Policy, and the Challenges of the Sector” which are not few. Brazil needs to develop a permanent industrial policy. “We need a state policy, not a government one,” Rocha stressed. Professionals and experts who were also present debated the growth of the cabotage market and the opportunities for the naval industry in this specialty.
Job Creation in the Naval Industry
The shipbuilding industry is undergoing unprecedented changes under the impact of the crisis, including rising logistics and equipment costs. Opportunities for building new offshore units are going to international shipyards, and there is increasing pressure from clients and the government, who seek to spend less and achieve high profits. However, according to Rocha, the sector has everything it needs to grow; it just needs good planning to avoid mistakes that could lead to losses and open the doors for national contracts.
