The Offshore Drilling Company Transocean Added Five Drillship Contracts Since the Last Fleet Status Report in April.
According to the latest fleet status report, Transocean managed to secure a contract for two semi-submersible drilling rigs and three drillships. The contracts added approximately US$ 158 million to the company’s backlog, totaling US$ 11.4 billion. Remember that they still have 2 openings for the Subsea area in Macaé, learn more here.
In Canada, Transocean secured a three-well contract for the Transocean Barents drilling platform. The semi-submersible drilling unit built in 2009 will remain with Suncor until October 2019.

The Canadian oil company will have options to extend for three more wells. The rig is operating at a daily rate of US$ 285,000.
In Egypt, Burullus chartered the drillship Discoverer in India under a three-month contract, plus six well options. The daily rate is US$ 135,000 with the contract starting in September and ending in December 2019.
Additionally, the drilling company managed to keep its semi-submersible Leiv Eiriksson built in 2001 in Norway, with a client exercising two options for a well. The rig is operating in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea, where it will stay with Lundin Petroleum until August. It will then be acquired by ConocoPhillips, which will keep the drilling platform busy until March 2020. The day rate was not disclosed.
The fourth new contract shared in Transocean’s update on Thursday is for the drillship Dhirubhai Deepwater KG1. The drilling vessel is operating in India for Reliance. The Indian oil company has now decided to extend the contract for another year.
The one-year extension starts in November. Additionally, the extension comes with an increased daily rate for the Dhirubhai Deepwater KG1.
With Petrobras, the drilling rig Ocean Rig Mykonos was awarded a contract for 550 days plus an option period of 815 days in Brazil. The contract will run from November 2019 to May 2021 at a day rate of US$ 215,000.
The current contract with Reliance for the Dhirubhai Deepwater KG1 is at a day rate of US$ 124,000. The rate will now increase to US$ 127,000 for the ultra-deepwater drillship built in 2009.
The fifth contract is for the drillship Deepwater Asgard in the Gulf of Mexico, where Murphy Oil awarded a two-well contract to the ultra-deepwater rig.
The contract starts in August and runs until October 2019 at a rate of US$ 185,000.
