UFJF Offers More Than 280 Vacancies in Free Courses, Including Languages Such as English, Spanish, and French, Especially for Residents of Neighborhoods Near the Institution.
The Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF) opens registrations for the program “Good Neighborhood Languages“, aimed at providing free language courses for the community not affiliated with the institution. Interested individuals can register until February 19, using an online form or in person. In-person registrations are open from Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm, at the Pro-Rectorate of Extension (Proex) office, located in the UFJF Rectorate building.
What Free Courses Will Be Offered by UFJF?
In total, 282 vacancies will be offered in seven free language courses: English (two modules); Spanish, French, Greek; Portuguese (for foreigners); Italian, and Brazilian Sign Language. The language courses last three academic semesters and are divided into three modules, with a total of 60 hours per class.
In total, there are 30 vacancies for Module I of the English course and 35 for the initial modules of each of the other free courses. Candidates with some prior knowledge of the language who wish to enter at a more advanced level must take a placement test. This request is made at the time of registration. The expectation is that the UFJF language courses will start in the week of March 18.

It is important to note that taking a language course is currently considered an essential condition for various professionals, given that fluency in more than one language has ceased to be just a differential and has become a prerequisite for achieving a good position in the job market. In fact, some companies not only require a second language but also conduct their selection processes in another language, especially in English, thus candidates must be prepared even before securing the position.
Find Out Who Can Compete for Vacancies in Free Language Courses at UFJF
Those interested in competing for the language courses must have studied in a public school or have been a full scholarship student in a private school at the elementary or high school level. It is also required that the candidate has a minimum educational background of complete elementary education. The vacancies are prioritized for residents of neighborhoods surrounding UFJF.
The complete list of neighborhoods can be found in the announcement. Candidates for the English course must be 18 years of age or older. Candidates for the other courses must be 16 years of age or older.
Applicants can compete for a place in up to three language courses offered, indicating their first, second, and third choices in order of preference at the time of registration. It is also important to mention that the drawing of approved candidates will be broadcast on the Proex channel on YouTube on February 29, starting at 3 pm. The final list of selected candidates will be published on the department’s website on March 1, also starting at 3 pm.
Placement Tests for Free Courses
The placement test is an assessment aimed at those who have prior knowledge and wish to enter at a more advanced level of the desired course.

Anyone expressing interest in taking the placement test, at the time of registration, if awarded a spot in the desired course, must take a placement test, which will be conducted in person on a date and time defined in the announcement. Students who do not pass the test will be added to the end of the Waiting List for Module I of the desired language, in descending order of score obtained in the placement.
