According to a company representative, even amid financial crisis, the group would resume operations at the plant in April. However, since November 2019, the plant has not paid salaries or the 13th salary of 600 employees, further aggravating the crisis in the small district of Vista Alegre.
At the time the company filed for judicial recovery, most of Tonon’s debt was tied to the Vista Alegre plant – MS, which has a milling capacity of 2.5 million.
The confirmation of the plant’s bankruptcy was made by the Secretary of State for Production, Jaime Verruck, who noted that the Tonon Sugar and Alcohol Industry had requested judicial recovery since last year.
According to Verruck, the information that the company was declared bankrupt by the justice of Jaú, São Paulo, last Friday (6), was conveyed in an extrajudicial manner.
He says that the government is concerned about the situation. 600 workers will lose their jobs, and moreover, they have not received salaries since November last year.
Verruck claims that the government hopes another group will be interested in purchasing the plant. He also noted that the uncertainty over Tonon’s financial status discouraged potential buyers of the company, located in Vista Alegre, a district of Maracaju – MS.
The secretary assured that the government will maintain the tax incentive policy to ensure that the industry returns to activity as quickly as possible.
In the assessment of the Secretary of Semagro, Tonon is modern and has a contract for energy supply, involving more than a thousand families in the region of Vista Alegre, in Maracaju, a city located 160 kilometers from Campo Grande.
