Semiconductor Shortage Forces Volkswagen Factory to Implement New Collective Vacation

The lack of components is directly affecting vehicle manufacturing in Brazil and worldwide. This Saturday, due to a shortage of electronic components, Volkswagen (VW) will place 800 employees from the Taubaté (SP) Plant on new collective vacation.

Understand How Collective Vacations Will Work

According to the Metalworkers Union of Taubaté and Region, the company’s decision will take effect next Monday, the 27th. The collective vacations will last for ten days, returning only on October 7th. The 800 employees going on new collective vacation represent one full shift of the factory.

Volkswagen claims that the reason for these new collective vacations is the shortage of components, especially semiconductors, which are essential in vehicle production. The production of semiconductors has been affected by fluctuations and high demand, severely hindering global vehicle production.

According to the union, Volkswagen stated that collective vacations would affect 2,000 workers, but there is always the possibility of new changes. The company’s measure will start with only 800 employees.

The Volkswagen factory in Taubaté produces the Gol and Voyage vehicles. Looking to the future, thanks to the MQB platform, the factory is also preparing for a new cycle of products. The adaptations caused a technical stop in the factory from May 3 to 12.

The difficulty in manufacturing new cars is causing prices for both new and used cars to skyrocket in the country. It is expected that the production of new semiconductors will return to normalcy only next year.
