The Volkswagen Tera Surprised in September and Took the Lead Among SUVs, Surpassing the T-Cross. Meanwhile, the Fiat Strada Regained Overall Top Position in a Month of Turnarounds in the Brazilian Automotive Market
September was a busy month for the Brazilian automotive industry. According to a survey by K.LUME Consultoria, there were 230,539 registered vehicles, a growth of 7.8% compared to August.
In the accumulated figures for 2025, the total reached 1,806,568 units, an increase of 3.2% compared to the same period last year. In this scenario, two changes caught attention: Fiat Strada regained the overall leadership and the newly launched Volkswagen Tera overtook the T-Cross, becoming the best-selling SUV in the country.
Strada Regains the Lead and Leaves Polo Behind
After four months behind the Volkswagen Polo, the Fiat Strada returned to the top comfortably. There were 13,876 registrations, compared to 10,647 for the hatch.

Volkswagen is preparing an SUV derived from the new Amarok to compete with the Toyota SW4 and Haval H9, utilize the Argentine Pacheco factory, and transform a pickup into a more profitable family of products.
In the accumulated figures for 2025, the pickup has already surpassed the 100,000 units sold mark (101,307), while the Polo stands at 93,712. The Fiat Argo, with 9,484 registrations, took third place, completing the podium for September.
Following, the Hyundai HB20 surprised by securing the fourth position. The fifth spot went to another pickup, the Volkswagen Saveiro, which recorded 8,154 units.

VW Tera Debuts in the Top 10 and Becomes the No. 1 SUV
The highlight of the month was the Volkswagen Tera, which made a strong entry into the market. After months of limited production, the model reached 7,610 registrations, entering directly into the top 10 and already as the best-selling SUV in the country in September.
The growth was already expected by the brand. The factory in Taubaté (SP), which produces both the Tera and the Polo, had been prioritizing the production of the hatch due to federal government incentives. Now, with the line adjusted, the SUV could gain space and respond to pent-up demand.
Meanwhile, the T-Cross, which usually ranked among the top three or four best-sellers, plunged to the 19th position, marking one of the poorest performances in its recent history.
Top 10: SUVs Dominate the List
In addition to the Tera, other SUVs made their presence felt in the ranking. The Toyota Corolla Cross placed 7th with 7,282 units, followed by the Chevrolet Onix (8th place, 7,039 registrations).
The Nissan Kicks, adding conventional and Play versions, secured the 9th spot with 6,319 units. Closing the top 10, the Hyundai Creta recorded 5,953 registrations.
In other words, four SUVs appeared among the ten best-selling vehicles in the country for the month, reinforcing the strength of the segment.

Sedans and Pickups: Balance in the Disputes
In the compact sedan segment, the Chevrolet Onix Plus took the lead with 5,169 registrations, occupying the 16th overall position, against 3,883 for the Hyundai HB20S.
Among the medium pickups, the competition remains fierce. The Fiat Toro, with 5,174 units, surpassed the Toyota Hilux, which closed September with 4,066 registrations. In the accumulated figures, the difference between the two decreased to less than a thousand units, showing that the Brazilian pickup is closing in on the traditional Japanese model.
Electric and Hybrid: BYD and GWM Remain at the Top
In the electric market, there were no surprises. The BYD Dolphin Mini was the absolute leader, with 3,392 units, followed by the larger BYD Dolphin, with 1,454. The third place went to the GWM Ora 03, which sold 429 units.
Among hybrids, the competition continues to be between Chinese manufacturers. The GWM Haval H6 once again stood out, with 2,937 registrations, ahead of the BYD Song Plus, which totaled 1,926 units.
This result shows a month of significant turnarounds: the Strada returned to overall top position, and the Volkswagen Tera managed to quickly establish itself as the best-selling SUV in Brazil, while traditional competitors like the T-Cross faced a sharp decline.
