Investments to Expand Production at the Factories and New Administrative Center
The owner of the Consul and Brastemp brands will invest R$ 240 million in its washing machine factory in Rio Claro (SP) and in its refrigerator factory in Joinville (SC). The company will also build a new administrative center in the capital city of São Paulo. João Carlos Brega, president of Whirlpool in Latin America, says that the capacity increase will generate approximately 3,000 jobs, both direct and indirect.
In an interview with Estadão, the executive states that the company finalized the investment decisions recently at the factories, amidst the pandemic, as the demand for white goods, such as refrigerators and washing machines, surged during the social isolation. “When the health crisis hit in 2020, we were aiming to reach the production levels of 2013 and 2014. In the end, our demand was one of the least affected,” said João Carlos.

Increase in Production During the Pandemic
The Whirlpool executive explains that the increase in sales and production at the company’s factories in 2020 was in double digits, a pace that is expected to continue into 2021. Other two factors that should benefit the company, according to him, are the health of the construction industry—which requires new homeowners to purchase furniture for their new homes—and the emergence of products that are still rare in Brazilian households, such as dishwashers.
In addition to the two factories that will receive investments and generate new jobs, the company that owns Consul and Brastemp also has a unit in Manaus, in the state of Amazonas, and has four technology centers and three distribution centers spread throughout Brazil.
