The President of the Steel Mill Met with the Governor of the Steel Valley and Announced Plans to Rehabilitate the Blast Furnace, the Steel Mill, and the Coke Ovens of the Ipatinga Plant.
The president of the Steel Plants of Minas Gerais (Usiminas), Alberto Akikazu Ono, and the Corporate Director of Sustainability and Institutional Relations, André Chaves, met with Governor Romeu Zema this Wednesday (1/18) at the Administrative City to discuss the company’s investment plan of R$ 3.6 billion and job creation in the state between 2023 and 2026.
Ono states that R$ 2.7 billion of the investment will be allocated to the repair of Blast Furnace 3 (which started in 2019). The equipment has been in use for 23 years, but after the renovations, it will operate better and cause less impact on the environment. Approximately eight thousand temporary jobs will be generated solely by the blast furnace, he stated.
R$ 1.1 billion will be spent on the restoration and renovation of coke ovens 2 and 3 and an additional R$ 893 million on steel mills.
