The Multi-Year Partnership Between Apple and Google Marks an Unprecedented Collaboration Between Historical Rivals in the Technology Sector, Comes After the Postponement of the New Siri to 2026 and Signals a Strategic Shift by Apple to Accelerate Its Response to Growing Pressure for Concrete Advances in Artificial Intelligence
Apple announced a multi-year partnership with Google to use the Gemini models and the company’s cloud infrastructure to update its artificial intelligence capabilities, including a long-awaited redesign of Siri, amid competitive pressure in the sector.
Strategic Partnership Between Historical Rivals
Both companies confirmed the agreement on Monday, marking a rare collaboration between long-time rivals. According to a statement obtained by CNBC, Apple stated that the partnership will support future Apple Foundation Models, based on the Gemini models and Google’s cloud technology.
The company explained that the choice was made after an internal analysis of the available artificial intelligence platforms. According to Apple, Google’s technology provided the most solid foundation for its foundation models and will enable new user experiences across its product line.

Apple declined to comment on the financial terms of the agreement. Google limited itself to the joint statement and did not provide additional details on amounts, timelines, or the operational scope of the contract signed between the companies.
Siri Under Pressure in the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence
Apple has largely remained on the sidelines of the artificial intelligence boom that began after the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022. During this period, companies like Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft invested billions in AI products, tools, and infrastructure.
This movement raised market expectations for a more advanced Siri. Last year, Apple postponed a major update to the assistant, pushing the launch to 2026. At the time, it stated that development would take longer than expected and that implementation would be gradual.
The use of the Gemini models could allow Siri to process more complex queries and maintain context during prolonged conversations, which could reduce the gap with competing assistants. This advancement is seen as central to repositioning Siri in the current landscape.
Integration with ChatGPT and Parallel Agreements
Apple already has a partnership with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into Siri for advanced requests. According to the company, there are no plans to alter this existing agreement.
It remains unclear how the Gemini models will be integrated into ChatGPT within Apple’s ecosystem. The company did not detail how the two technologies will coexist or what specific functions each will have, leaving that definition for later stages.
Google’s Push in AI and Cloud Computing
The agreement also highlights Google’s growing strength in artificial intelligence and cloud services. The company launched its updated Gemini 3 model at the end of last year, reinforcing its position in the corporate market and large contracts.
In October, Google CEO Sundar Pichai stated that Google Cloud had secured contracts exceeding US$ 1 billion through the third quarter of 2025, a total that surpassed the sum of the previous two years.
Last week, Google briefly surpassed Apple in market value for the first time since 2019, before both recorded a slight drop in shares following the announcement.
