Umapaz, through the Municipal School of Gardening of São Paulo, will offer at least two free courses on Horticulture throughout 2024, providing a unique opportunity for those interested in planting food sustainably and healthily. With lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on activities, participants will have the chance to deepen their knowledge about gardening, from soil preparation to harvesting.
What Will Students Learn from These Free Courses?
The classes will cover a variety of essential topics for successful gardening, including organic agriculture, soil management, nutrition and pest control, agroecology, healthy eating, as well as Non-Conventional Edible Plants and composting.
The focus on composting, emphasizing the use of worm bins to handle organic waste, highlights the importance of sustainability, reducing waste production and providing valuable fertilizer for crops.

Where Will the Classes Be Held?
The free courses will be taught at Umapaz and at the Experimental Field of the Municipal School of Gardening, with weekly classes and the opportunity for students to follow all the practical steps of creating the garden.
When Will the Free Horticulture Courses Start?
The first class will start in March, with registrations opening at 10 AM on February 27.

The second class will start on August 1, with registrations available starting at 10 AM on July 17.
Attendance in the first class is mandatory to secure the spot, and unexcused absence will be considered a withdrawal, releasing the spot to the first on the waiting list.
Each class will last for 3 hours, totaling 30 hours of instruction.
To receive the certificate, it is necessary to have 75% attendance in the classes.
The use of masks is recommended, as well as maintaining hand hygiene with hand sanitizer and practicing social distancing during classes.
Additionally, it is advisable to use sunscreen, a hat, and insect repellent, and to bring a pen for notes.
