“For the first time, the refinery broke the average mark of 3,000 tons/day of product supply. There were 102 tons of LPG more per day compared to March, representing a 3.5% increase in daily deliveries compared to the previous month,” said Petrobras in a statement.
“These numbers consolidate Reduc as Brazil’s main cooking gas supply point. Between March and April, 180,483 tons of LPG were delivered, making the refinery play an important role in supplying this product to various regions of the country,” the statement adds.
According to the refinery, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a significant drop in demand for the main petroleum derivatives. In contrast, the domestic demand for LPG has soared since the outbreak began, far exceeding initial requests from distributors and market forecasts.
“Our customers increased their orders, and due to the unique infrastructure and characteristics of our industrial plant, we had full conditions to meet this demand growth,” stated the general manager of the unit, William França, in a statement.
Path of LPG
The product sold at Reduc is mostly composed of Natural Gas Liquid (NGL) processed from platforms in the Campos (RJ) and Santos (SP) basins. Another portion of the derivative is produced at the refinery, which also receives LPG from the Cabiúnas Terminal in Macaé.
Reduc is the third largest refinery in the country and the most complex in Petrobras, with the capacity to process 40 million liters of oil daily and produce more than 50 different types of derivatives.
