The Construction Sector of Both Private and Public Companies Drives the State of Rio Grande do Sul
With the Covid-19 pandemic, the construction projects of private companies have resumed operations in the state capital, Porto Alegre. Public works were not halted. In an unusual year, when the Covid-19 pandemic affects various sectors of the economy, the construction market faces the challenge of accelerating projects and maintaining planned investments not only in the capital but also throughout Brazil.

In the capital, construction has received good news – with the streamlining of processes, the city hall received a total of 174 requests for new projects totaling R$ 8.73 billion in investments.
According to Sinduscon-RS, besides being the sector that generates the most jobs in Porto Alegre, with 27,000 people, it has major projects underway. One of these is Pontal, located in the south zone, which will become a new landscape point in the capital, similar to section 1 of the waterfront, a reference for the citizens of Porto Alegre. Nearby, work is also ongoing to revitalize section 3, which will feature the largest skate park in Latin America.

Public works are also driving the city of Porto Alegre. This is the case of the new Guaíba Bridge, which Dnit estimates will be operational by November. The duplication of BR-116 is also progressing toward the city of Pelotas. Ongoing projects by Fraport also include the expansion of the runway at Salgado Filho Airport and the construction of a new cargo terminal. Sulgás is also investing in the expansion of the network to serve residential and commercial clients.
