Initial Works for the Construction of Porto Sul, in Ilhéus, Bahia, Are Authorized and Promises to Generate Many Jobs in the Region
Good news for Bahia! Last week, the company Bahia Mineração (BAMIN) signed a service order to begin the construction works of Porto Sul, in the municipality of Ilhéus. The total investment is approximately R$ 188 million, and the contracted contractor is expected to start mobilizing jobs in the region.

The initial works correspond to the construction of roads, installation of signage, bridges, implementation of electrical and water networks, among others, and will enable the development phase of the project structure.
“For us at BAMIN, the beginning of this first phase of the project demonstrates our confidence in Porto Sul, as well as in the economic recovery of the regions in which we operate. It is an effort that highlights our commitment to actively participate and contribute to this recovery,” informed the financial director and Institutional Relations of Bahia Mineração, Alexandre Aigner.

“This phase of the works will generate 400 direct jobs at the peak of implementation, with the expectation of generating another 1,200 indirect jobs,” added the executive.
The construction of Porto Sul, besides providing the state with another port terminal, will also expand Bahia’s logistics corridor. “This project between the State Government and Bahia Mineração will enable the export of our products (iron ore, grains from the west) and will also guarantee that the bidding for the concession of the West-East Railway (Fiol) can be carried out by the Federal Government,” stated the state secretary of Infrastructure of Bahia, Marcus Cavalcanti.
Bahia Mineração is a Brazilian mining company that began its activities in 2005 with a pioneering project for the state of Bahia. The company has strategic offices in Caetité, Ilhéus, Belo Horizonte, and its headquarters is located in Salvador.
