The Wellboat ship manufactured by the Detroit shipyard in Itajaí, is a vessel designed for the transport of live fish, in this case salmon. The purpose of the vessel is to collect fish from underwater farms and transport them alive in their tanks to the processing industry on the coast.

Through a series of special equipment installed on board the ship, it allows the vessel to be able to control water renewal, purity, temperature, oxygen level and acidity (pH) during transport.

In addition, all the handling of the fish carried out through pipes, pumps and tanks was carefully designed not to 'hurt' the fish, aiming to deliver a raw material with a high quality index.

Over the next few months, the Wellboat named EIR will go through the finishing and commissioning phase at the Detroit Shipyard pier in Itajaí, Santa Catarina.

About the newest Wellboat type ship

With around 70 meters in length, the ship should sail to Chile later this year, its future place of operation, where the Detroit S/A group has a strong presence in the marine fish farming segment. The shipyard is still working on building a second Wellboat with delivery scheduled for 2021.

Busy Saturday at the Detroit Shipyard, in Itajaí – Santa Carina

In addition to launching the ship Wellboat in the morning, the Detroit shipyard, in Itajaí – Santa Carina, took the PSV Starnav Aquila out of the dock in the afternoon.

O starnav Aquila has been dry-docking the 5-year-old class over the last few weeks, with plans to leave for sea trials next week. The two maneuvers on Saturday at the Detroit Shipyard were supported by the tugboats Starnav Electra (80 Ton) and C Quartzo (64 Ton) from Camorim that left the Port of Paranaguá (PR) last Friday (24). With the conclusion of activities in Itajaí, the two tugboats returned to the port of operation on Saturday (25).
