The Wellboat Vessel Was Designed in Santa Catarina, Making the Shipyard One of the Only Ones in the World to Produce This Type of Ship

Good news for Brazil’s shipbuilding industry. The hull C-416 of the Wellboat vessel was launched last Saturday (25) by Estaleiro Detroit in Itajaí. The vessel was developed by the group, making the shipyard one of the few in the world that build this type of vessel. The Wellboat manufactured by Estaleiro Detroit in Itajaí is a vessel designed for the transportation of live fish, in this case, salmon. The vessel is intended to collect fish from underwater farms and transport it live in its tanks to the processing industry on the coast.

Through a series of special equipment installed aboard the vessel, it allows the ship to control the renewal, purity, temperature, oxygen level, and acidity (pH) of the water during transport.

Additionally, all handling of the fish is carefully designed through pipelines, pumps, and tanks to avoid ‘injuring’ the fish, aiming to deliver a high-quality raw material.

Over the coming months, the Wellboat named EIR will undergo finishing and commissioning at the Estaleiro Detroit dock in Itajaí, Santa Catarina.

About the Newest Wellboat Vessel

At about 70 meters long, the vessel is expected to head for Chile later this year, its future operating location where the Detroit S/A group has a strong presence in the marine aquaculture segment. The shipyard is also working on the construction of a second Wellboat scheduled for delivery in 2021.

Busy Saturday at Estaleiro Detroit in Itajaí – Santa Catarina

In addition to the launch of the Wellboat in the morning, Estaleiro Detroit in Itajaí – Santa Catarina also took the PSV Starnav Aquila out of the dock in the afternoon.

The Starnav Aquila underwent a 5-year class dry docking over the past weeks, with plans to head out for sea trials next week. The two maneuvers on Saturday at Estaleiro Detroit were supported by the tugboats Starnav Electra (80 Ton) and C Quartzo (64 Ton) from Camorim, which left the Port of Paranaguá (PR) last Friday (24). After completing activities in Itajaí, both tugboats returned to the operating port on Saturday (25).
