“What we are currently seeking is to advance the civil works and electromechanical assembly with companies contracted by Eletronuclear, maintaining the supplies considered critical, so that we can do this work this year, 2020, to effectively sign the civil works and electromechanical assembly at the beginning of 2021, to effectively start concreting and assembly in October 2021, respecting the operation start in November 2026,” said Guimarães.
The interministerial committee of the BNDES has already prepared the business model, but it still depends on approval by the Investment Partnerships Program Council (CPPI). According to him, this approval was expected in March but was postponed due to the impact of the coronavirus.
The business model is essential to establish the public call for defining a potential international partner to complete the project. According to Guimarães, the investment needed to complete the Angra 3 nuclear plant is 14.5 billion reais.
Eletronuclear also has a debt of approximately 19 billion reais related to the construction of the Angra 3 nuclear plant.
The acceleration of the critical path is expected to consume 1 billion reais in investments from the Eletrobras group. This amount is part of the state-owned company’s business plan from 2020 to 2024.
The executive reported that Eletrobras is reassessing the business plan, due to the impacts of the pandemic, however, even if there is a change in values, according to him, the strategy regarding the critical path should be maintained.
The activities of the Lifetime Extension Program (LTO) of Angra 1 were not interrupted during the coronavirus crisis.
The progress of the works is considered crucial for the company, in order to ensure the relicensing of the unit, extending the life of Angra 1 by another 20 years.
