17 notifications of signs of oil and gas were made to the National Petroleum Agency in 2019

The National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) was notified 17 times in 2019 by operators that made oil and gas discoveries in the country. There were 23 discoveries and 17 formal notifications. This value represents 35% more in relation to the previous year. See too: Technicians are required on this day to work in São Paulo and Goiás

Of the 23 indications of hydrocarbons, 11 were oil and 8 gas, with 15 onshore discoveries and 8 offshore discoveries. The oil discoveries were in Recôncavo (4), Espírito Santo (2), Santos (2) and Sergipe-Alagoas (2). The gas ones were in Parnaíba (6), Recôncavo (1) and Santos (1).

Discoveries of both, that is, of oil and gas, were in the Campos, Santos, Parnaíba and Sergipe-Alagoas basins.

Indications of onshore oil and gas were: seven in the Parnaíba Basin (Eneva); five in Recôncavo (2 Petrobras, 2 Great Energy and 1 Imetame) and three in Espírito Santos (BGM).

Offshore discoveries were made by Shell (1 Alto de Cabo Frio Central and others in Sul de Gato do Mato); Equinor (North of Carcará) and Petrobras (3 Sergipe-Alagoas, 1 Campos and 1 Santos).

However, such progress is still much lower compared to the historical peak in Brazil, which was in 2012, when 174 discoveries were made (86 offshore and 88 onshore), according to the ANP. In that year alone, Petrobras accounted for more than 50% of all discoveries made in the country.
