Court decision extends deadlines for CNH candidates in SC, but Detran predicts more than 72 thousand cancellations in Renach.

The DMV will comply with a court ruling that extends the deadlines for driver's license processes. Even so, 72 registrations may be canceled due to high demand and lack of progress by candidates in some stages. The measure seeks to mitigate losses, but raises concerns about the mobility and organization of driver's license processes in the state.

A court decision could change the reality of thousands of candidates for a driver's license in Santa Catarina, and the impact promises to be significant.

With more than 72 thousand CNH (National Driver's License) processes subject to cancellation, the State Department of Traffic (Detran-SC) finds itself faced with a situation that reflects not only administrative issues, but also the future of many potential drivers in the state.

The controversy arises after the Federal Court granted an injunction that extends the validity period of processes in Renach (National Driver's License Registry) for candidates who have already completed the practical hours.

The initial deadline was for completion by December 31, 2024, but the court order considered the risk that thousands of candidates would be harmed by the high pent-up demand in transit agencies.

Understand the court decision

The injunction was issued based on the principle of danger of delay, pointing out that Candidates who were unable to complete their processes within the stipulated period would be severely disadvantaged.

According to Detran-SC, there are currently 106.685 records in Renach affected by the situation.

This high demand, driven by the overload on traffic agencies, created difficulties for many candidates in advancing through the stages required for the issuing of the driver's license.

The court decision recognizes that extending deadlines is essential to mitigate negative impacts.

However, even with the measure in force, Detran-SC announced that there will be a significant volume of cancellations, especially for those who did not complete the necessary steps of the process.

Expected cancellations

Detran-SC estimates that approximately 66.614 registrations will be cancelled as they are in the initial stages of the process, that is, even before the practical course is carried out.

Others 1.923 records must be invalidated, considering candidates who intended to obtain category A or B and who did not present results in the practical driving course.

Furthermore, 3.617 registrations of candidates for category AB will be cancelled for not presenting results in any of the required categories.

Detran reinforced that compliance with the court decision will be strict, respecting the terms established by the Federal Court.

Impact on candidates

The anticipated cancellations raise concerns among candidates who rely on their driver's license for professional and personal reasons.

According to the agency, the high pent-up demand in traffic agencies is due to the increase in the number of people interested in obtaining the license, combined with the administrative difficulties faced in recent years..

Candidates who are in the most advanced stages of the process will have their deadlines extended, allowing completion without immediate risk of cancellation.

However, those who are in the early stages or who have not made significant progress will be directly impacted.

The reaction of Detran-SC

According to Detran-SC, the agency is committed to ensuring that processes are conducted in a fair and transparent manner.

In a note, he highlighted that the court decision is an opportunity to adjust the workflow and meet demand more efficiently.

Furthermore, the institution reinforced the importance of candidates regularly monitoring the status of their registrations in Renach to avoid unpleasant surprises.

What happens now?

With the deadline extended, candidates who have already completed their practical hours can breathe a sigh of relief, as long as they complete the remaining stages within the new period established.

However, those who have not yet started or who have not shown significant progress will face cancellation of the processes.

In a context where urban mobility increasingly depends on regular licenses, the decision by Detran-SC and the Federal Court highlights the need for planning to avoid similar situations in the future.

How to track the process and avoid driver's license cancellations

Detran-SC recommends that all candidates regularly access the Renach system to check the status of their registrations.

Additionally, communication with driving schools and attention to the steps in the process are essential to ensure successful completion.
