Seadrill Secured Long-Term Contracts for Two Drillships with Petrobras, Including Additional Services and Mobilization Fees in the Fourth Quarter.
The offshore drilling company Seadrill acquired long-term contracts for two drillships with Petrobras, the Brazilian state oil and gas giant.
The drillships West Auriga and West Polaris secured work through a competitive bidding process, obtaining fixed-term contracts of 1,064 days in Brazil, Seadrill explained.
Although the total contract value for the West Auriga is approximately US$ 577 million, the total contract value for the West Polaris is approximately US$ 518 million. Both include mobilization fees and additional services.

Seadrill Secures Long-Term Contracts for Drillships in Brazil
Therefore, the offshore drilling player emphasizes that these contracts, which are set to commence in the fourth quarter of 2024, have a total contract value of approximately US$ 1.1 billion, including additional services and mobilization fees.
Seadrill President Simon Johnson Comments on Drillship Contracts
Simon Johnson, President and CEO of Seadrill, commented: ‘We secured long-term contracts for West Auriga and West Polaris along with our four high-specification drillships already in operation in Brazil.
‘Petrobras is an important and longstanding customer of Seadrill. We are excited to expand our contractual relationship with them and increase our number of rigs in this important region.’
West Auriga and West Polaris will transition to Seadrill from the existing third-party managers, Diamond Offshore and Vantage Drilling, before carrying out campaigns with Petrobras.
Technical Details of the Drillships
The 2013-built West Auriga is a dual activity ultra-deepwater drillship from Samsung 12,000, seventh generation, with capacity to accommodate 200 people. Although the rig is capable of operating in water depths of 12,000 feet, its maximum drilling depth is 37,500 feet.
On the other hand, the West Polaris is a sixth generation Samsung 10,000 dual activity drillship, which comes with the capability to work in water depths of up to 10,000 feet. This rig has a maximum drilling depth of 37,500 feet and can accommodate 200 people.
Expansion of Seadrill Platform Fleet
Seadrill has been working to secure new jobs for its platform fleet. At the end of November 2023, the company confirmed additional work for two other drillships in the Gulf of Mexico, USA.
