Fabiano Rezende, general manager of the VLI North-Central Corridor, says, “We are preparing to meet the next harvest. This fleet reinforcement demonstrates our commitment to continue supporting the growth of grain movement in the Northern Arc.” The northern region is one of the fastest-growing areas in agricultural production. Last year, the railway network transported 7.9 million tons of corn, soybeans, and meal, a 25% increase compared to the previous year.
Additionally, VLI transported over 11 million tons of other products last year, such as fuels, cellulose, pig iron, and manganese. In 2021, production in the northern states is expected to increase, with soybeans being predominant.

After 16 years and almost 600 prototypes, a Chinese inventor unveils the world’s smallest and cheapest manned jet, at just 3.80 meters long and costing US$7.2 thousand in materials.
In 2020/21, the area planted with soybeans in Piauí is expected to increase by over 5%, and the planted area in Tocantins, Maranhão, and Pará will also grow by 2.1%, 2.5%, and 2.6%, respectively, according to the latest estimates from the national supply company.
The new units feature a high-performance “motion control” system that reduces friction between the wheels and the track, thereby reducing fuel consumption and wear.
VLI stated that “The investment is aligned with the strategy to increase the capacity and agility in the flow of grains leaving the interior of the country, passing through the terminals of Porto Nacional and Palmeirante in Tocantins, and continuing to Porto do Itaqui in São Luís (MA).”
