VLI, a company that offers logistics solutions, announced that it will increase its fleet in the North region. 80 wagons in 2020 and 167 will arrive in 2021

The logistics company VLI will increase the number of 247 wagons used in the North region, of the North-South Railway between Porto Nacional (TO) and Açailândia (MA), with the objective of strengthening the transport of grains in the important agricultural frontier in the next crop. In recent weeks, the operation received 80 wagons and a new batch of 167 assets will arrive in early 2021.

Fabiano Rezende, general manager of the Central-North Corridor at VLI, says that “We are getting ready to serve the next crop. This reinforcement in the fleet demonstrates our commitment to continue supporting the growth of grain movement in Arco Norte”. The northern region is one of the fastest growing areas in agricultural production. Last year, the railway network handled 7,9 million tons of corn, soy and bran, an increase of 25% compared to the previous year.

In addition, last year VLI transported more than 11 million tons of other products, such as fuel, cellulose, pig iron and manganese. In 2021, production in the northern states is expected to increase, with soybeans predominating.

In 2020/21, the area planted with soybeans in Piauí is expected to increase by more than 5%, and the area planted in Tocantins, Maranhão and Pará will also increase by 2,1%, 2,5% and 2,6%, respectively, from according to the latest estimates by the national supply company.

The new units have a high-performance “motion control” system that reduces friction between the wheels and the road, thus reducing fuel consumption and wear.

In a note, VLI communicated that “The investment is in line with the strategy of increasing capacity and agility in the flow of grains that leave the interior of the country, pass through the terminals of Porto Nacional and Palmeirante, in Tocantins, and continue to Porto do Itaqui, in São Paulo.
