The company announced the successful completion of the installation of the topside on the FPSO Bacalhau, a vital structure for the production of oil and gas in the Santos Basin, one of the most promising fields of Brazil’s pre-salt.

These facilities not only ensure the efficiency and safety of production but are also designed to minimize environmental impact, reflecting Equinor’s commitment to sustainability.
The FPSO Bacalhau, led by Modec, is a giant among ships of its class.
With the hull construction carried out by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. (DSIC) in China, the ship proceeded to Singapore for module integration at Jurong shipyard.
The commissioning of the unit will also take place there, preparing the FPSO for its journey to the Santos Basin.
Equinor Expects First Oil in 2025
Commissioned to begin production in 2025, the FPSO Bacalhau has the capacity to process an impressive 220,000 barrels per day.
To put it in perspective, that is equivalent to a land-based oil and gas processing plant covering an area of 10 square kilometers.
The oil and gas treatment topside of the FPSO Bacalhau weighs 50,000 tons, and the vessel has up to 34,000 pipes and around 800,000 meters of cables, demonstrating the magnitude of this project.
The operation of the Bacalhau field is a collaborative effort.
Equinor holds a 40% stake, in partnership with ExxonMobil and Petrogal Brasil, while Pré-Sal Petróleo S.A (PPSA) manages the sharing contract.
Modec, responsible for engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of the FPSO, will operate the vessel during its first year, after which Equinor will take full control of the installation.
This development is a testament to technological advancement and international collaboration in the search for cleaner and more efficient energy solutions.
