Bahia has gained national prominence in agribusiness by placing eight municipalities among the 100 wealthiest in Brazil in the sector.
The data was released by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) and shows the prominence of the state in the agricultural scenario of the Northeast. The figures are from the end of last year, with a reference year of 2023.
Bahia Leads Among Northeastern States
Of the 13 northeastern cities in the national ranking, eight are in Bahia.

The regional leadership demonstrates the strength of Bahia’s agricultural production, especially in the cultivation of grains and fruits.
The municipality of São Desidério, located in the west of the state, is the standout. With a production valued at R$ 7.7 billion, the city holds the second position in the national ranking, behind only Sorriso (MT), which registered R$ 8.3 billion.
Other Bahian municipalities also show impressive figures. Formosa do Rio Preto ranked 7th nationally, with R$ 5.7 billion.
Barreiras occupies 25th place, with R$ 3.1 billion, followed by Correntina (28th place, R$ 3 billion), Luís Eduardo Magalhães (32nd place, R$ 2.7 billion), Riachão das Neves (48th place, R$ 2 billion), Jaborandi (62nd place, R$ 1.6 billion), and Juazeiro (66th place, R$ 1.5 billion).

Grains and Fruits Drive Growth
The advance of Bahia in agribusiness is directly linked to the production of soybeans, corn, and cotton.
These crops are the main contributors to the high value generated in the municipalities of the state. In addition to grains, fruit cultivation also plays a significant role, especially for mango, passion fruit, bananas, and grapes.
National Production Exceeds R$ 814 Billion
According to MAPA, Brazilian agricultural production in 2023 totaled R$ 814.5 billion. The 100 wealthiest municipalities accounted for R$ 260 billion of this value, equivalent to 31.9% of the total.
These municipalities are distributed across 14 states, with Mato Grosso leading with 36 cities in the ranking.
The survey used data from the Agricultural Production Municipal (PAM) from IBGE and considered 70 products from permanent and temporary crops.
Soybeans remain the country’s main crop, with R$ 348.6 billion, followed by corn, sugarcane, cotton, coffee, and oranges.
Bahia, with its strength in agriculture, continues to consolidate its position in the national agricultural scenario.
