The American Dream, recognized as the longest car in the world, has been restored and shines once again. With an impressive length of 30.54 meters, this iconic limousine features luxurious characteristics and a remarkable history of rise, abandonment, and rebirth.

Construction and Initial Fame

The car was originally built in 1986 by collector and customizer Jay Ohrberg. At the time, it measured 18.28 meters and had two V8 engines, one in the front and another in the rear. Unsatisfied with its dimensions, Ohrberg decided to extend the limousine, reaching an impressive 30.5 meters. The Guinness World Records recognized the American Dream as the longest car in the world, consolidating its fame.

With its unusual size and extravagant design, the car became an icon. It appeared on magazine covers, television shows, and even in movies. However, its popularity declined over the years. Eventually, the limousine was abandoned in the back of a warehouse in New Jersey, where it remained for decades in a state of degradation.

The Rescue of the American Dream

The rebirth of the American Dream began when Michael Dezer and Michael Manning found it listed online. Fascinated by the vehicle, they decided to purchase it and start a restoration process. Years of dedication and a considerable investment were necessary to bring the limousine back to life.

Michael Manning revealed what the first encounter with the car was like. He saw it at an auto show in New Jersey and, despite its poor condition, was enamored. “I found the car and it was trash. It was covered in graffiti, the windows were broken, the tires were flat, but I fell in love with it anyway,” Manning told the Guinness World Records.

Luxurious and Renewed Structure

The result of the restoration is stunning. The limousine now features 26 new wheels, a renewed white paint job, and some structural modifications that made it even larger. Besides its size, the car stands out for the luxury items it offers. It includes a water bed, a pool with a trampoline, a jacuzzi, a bathtub, and even a mini-golf course. One of the highlights is the functional helipad, designed to support a small helicopter. The interior space comfortably accommodates up to 75 passengers.

Exhibition and Recognition

Although functional, the American Dream is not practical for driving on roads. Its length prevents safe maneuvers on most routes. Therefore, it is only used as a display car. Currently, it is on display at Dezerland Park Orlando’s Auto Museum in Florida, where visitors can see it up close.

The story of the American Dream reflects its grandeur. From rise to abandonment and finally to renewal, the limousine continues to impress and secure its place in the history of automotive records.
