After Explosion in Fuel Tank in Volta Redonda (RJ), ANP Interdicts Vibra Base and Suspends Movement of Products Linked to the Oil Sector; Measure Seeks to Prevent New Risks and Environmental Damage.
The Vibra Energia base, in Volta Redonda (RJ), was interdicted after the explosion of a fuel tank that resulted in the death of two workers.
The measure was determined by the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels, responsible for overseeing activities related to oil in the country.
The interdiction affects the storage tanks and other equipment at the operational unit located in the Vila Americana neighborhood. As a result, the company is prohibited from moving hazardous products until new authorization from the regulatory agency.

Moreover, a technical team from the agency was immediately sent to the site to monitor the situation and assess the risks involved. The decision has a preventive character and aims to avoid new accidents.
Measure Has Legal Basis and Focuses on Safety
According to ANP, the interdiction was based on Law No. 9,847/1999. The main objective is to safeguard the safety of people and property, as well as to prevent possible environmental damage resulting from the explosions and leaks reported in the area.

The oil sector demands strict safety protocols. Nevertheless, accidents involving fuels continue to generate concern, especially in urban areas. In this case, the emergency circumstances prompted the immediate suspension of activities.
Meanwhile, the competent authorities are investigating the causes of the explosion. The inquiry will analyze operational failures, structural conditions, and possible irregularities in the storage systems.
Impact on the Sector and Alert About Operational Risks
The interdiction of a base linked to the oil sector does not only affect the involved company. It can also generate impacts on the logistics of fuel distribution in the region. Volta Redonda is a significant industrial hub in the state of Rio de Janeiro, which increases the attention on the case.
In addition to the operational impact, the episode reignites the debate about safety in facilities that store large volumes of petroleum derivatives. Leaks and explosions, even if isolated, can have serious consequences for workers and nearby communities.
ANP stated that the unit will only be able to resume operations after fulfilling all technical requirements and receiving formal authorization from the agency. Until then, the base remains completely prohibited from operating.
