The contract enables the installation of the first Structuring Gas Pipeline Network in the Northeast, in Petrolina, a municipality in the interior of Pernambuco.
The project, valued at US$ 2 million, is a Golar initiative in partnership with natural gas distribution companies, aimed at implementing the necessary infrastructure for LNG to reach more remote locations.

“Petrolina is 750 km from Recife. Gas would hardly reach Petrolina if it weren’t for the LNG transport and regasification infrastructure we will implement with Copergás. The gas reaching Petrolina will supply industries, commerce, CNG stations, and residences,” said Golar’s Vice President, Marcelo Rodrigues.
In Petrolina, Copergás will build a 40 km pipeline to distribute gas. This facility will be ready to receive a volume of 40,000 m³ of natural gas per day, which will be transported in ISO containers supplied by the LNG terminal at the Port of Suape.
Golar Power Projects in the Brazilian Northeast
In March of this year, Golar signed a memorandum of understanding with the Government of the State of Pernambuco for the construction of an LNG Terminal at the Suape Port Industrial Complex, scheduled to begin operations in the first quarter of 2021. It is expected that the venture will generate 300 new jobs in the region.
Golar Power also has projects to ensure that imported LNG is supplied to free gas consumers, such as large companies, and to the Bahia state natural gas distributor, as well as thermoelectric projects and other gas distributors.
